First Comox Valley Pre-Emptors Map 1862-1899

The first settlers were given free land in return for clearing and settling the property; usually 160 acres in size or a district lot. The first settlers pre-empted land along Comox Bay, Courtenay River, and at the top of Mission Hill (Area in red). The adjoining lands were pre-empted a bit later by the Settlers. Most of the Comox Valley had been pre-empted by 1899.
